Located
in
160-year-old
Ss. Peter and PaulJesuitChurch
parish, the WarmingCenter
is people in
mutual service to and with our neighbors, many of who live on the
street, and
whose realities include addiction, grief, shame, fear, impoverishment
and/or
mental impairment. Our mission is nurtured by Ignatian Spirituality,
which is
rooted in the spiritual experiences and writings of St. Ignatius of
Loyola
(1491-1556), the founder of the Jesuit order. This spirituality has
been
developed and adapted by Jesuits and lay people from its earliest
beginnings.Today, the core of the
Spiritual Exercises of St. Ignatius of Loyola forms one’s relationships
with God,
one’s neighbor and oneself. The WarmingCenter
offers the space
necessary for building up these relationships.

Hospitality
Meal
Ministry
A
Hospitality
Meal
is a hot meal (with some meat) served monthly
to 40-50 guests. A family, church, work place, or school provides the
ingredients, and/or prepares and serves the meal. The average cost is
$65-$80.
You select one menu from several suggested options. Please contact Fr.
Ben
Jimenez, S.J. for more information.
Volunteer
Opportunities
The
WarmingCenter
has only limited
opportunities for volunteers in its ministry of hospitality. The proper
practice of this ministry requires a staff who can understand the
realities of
the drug culture and informal economy, maintain appropriate
inter-personal
boundaries and commit to a long-term and regular presence which is
essential
for the development of pastoral care skills. Therefore, the WarmingCenter
relies on a staff to realize its mission and does not schedule
volunteers to be
in direct contact with guests. Volunteers may work in
"behind-the-scenes" tasks. These opportunities are scheduled with
interested individuals at mutually convenient times.
Please
note
that
the WarmingCenter has a
strict policy against
minors (children and teens) being present in the WarmingCenter
during its hours of operation.
